A field watch?
So, to you, what makes a watch a field watch?

Arabic numerals, lume, some water resistance, large enough to see small enough to not get in the way.

Ideally, a military watch issued to ground troops. A full set of Arabic numerals, good lume, good clarity, decent water resistance, inner 24-hour scale optional, not too big, lowish price.
Less ideally but more commonly, a military-type watch in a similar style.

This is about what I would have written. There's a difference between a "definition" and "what do I picture when you say the word." In general I picture something with a black dial, white numerals and straight or sword hands, Arabic number for every hour, and the lume should not be so crazy-bright as to tip off a sniper from 200 meters. Unfortunately, watches that fit this definition perfectly tend to all look the same, a bit boring actually. That's probably why most modern commercial field watches don't fit the script to a "T" (or a broad arrow even.)
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

I wouldn’t take one seriously that didn’t have hesalite. Hesalite that doesn’t move at all when you press on it as hard as you can. If it is also high dome then so much the better. Underneath that all should be simple minimal unfussy clarity in high contrast. So I’d count the 1016 Explorer. No more that 38mm, but 36, even 34mm is preferable. I’m looking for a cockroach, not a tank. It can’t be shiny anywhere.

I just read the basic "definition" of a field watch in the other thread. Opinions will always vary but I have a basic picture now.
