Joking aside, so do I. I think you’ve got it just right - let the patina build up and then take it back a notch or two.
You don’t really want your watch to look as though it’s been rediscovered on the ocean floor after being lost. Well, not unless that actually happened.
I only have one brass watch on courtesy of mlcor..
i clean it up with toothpaste and small brush when i got it 1,5 years ago..and let it naturally develop surface patina ever since.. it look much darker indoor..
someday i might try bronze watch just to check how differ it is from brass..
