    Quartz watches

Do you have anything against quartz watches? Are they as much fun as a mechanical watch? What is the maximum you would spend on a quartz watch?

I'm not anti-quartz but I do prefer mechanical movements. There's just something satisfying about having a "living" piece of machinery on one's wrist. Also, my vintages are all mechanical and tell good stories. Can quartz be vintage? How old does something need to be before it's considered vintage?

    These are all quartz

Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

An item should be at least 100 years old to be defined as an antique. Generally speaking if the item is no older than an antique but not less than 20 years, it falls under the term vintage. I have heard the term 'true vintage' as being at least 50 years old.

so heard some say anything over 30

so yes some of my seiko quartz are vintage pieces

edit think I did a thread on it but just to lazy to look

I ...almost... got one earlier this month, late last month..... it was a Junghans

Most places sell this model (an analog dialled Chronograph) for £445, I looked everywhere for a good deal - I eventually found an authorised retailer selling it for £332 !! Obviously that dial colour/strap colour combo didnít sell for them so they were dumping it.

I put it in the basket (just one left) , I kept looking , I left it for a day, checked it out again .... it was still in the basket

For some reason, although I was very close to pressing order , I just didnít .... another £20 or 330 even and I would have done. (Maybe it was the dial/strap colour combo but I think it was the price.)

Then the next day I looked again - again close to pressing order - but it had been snapped up.

So I guess thatís my price limit for a quartz - if it was £300 I might have just done it on day one.

I have an analog dialled quartz already (Kampswimmer ) and that was a very similar situation and price.

Back in the day, 35 years ago, I wouldnít have blinked buying whichever it was, but now I do..
Thatís not to say I wouldnít but price would have to as above.

Other than the occasional G shock and Swatch, I'm not much of a fan of quartz... However... I'd gladly wear this all day every day:

Yeah that's a beauty. But would you spend that much for a quartz?
