Your favourite complications, and why you like them

Alarm:

Poljot 2612.1 movement
Loved not having to rely on my phone, and the ‘mechanical fart’ sound (TM DJW)

Medical (pulsemeter):

Chaika medical watch
Time for 30 secs, read off your pulse rate
Great for feeling empowered at medical appointments :-)

Telemeter (central scale):

Just the geeky pleasure of working out how far away lightning is (time between the flash and the bang, read off the distance)

Chronographs, by far. I always manage to use the complication often and I miss it, every time I wear other, simpler watches.

If power reserve is a complication, then there's my favourite - I don't mean the actual dial per se, I mean a long power reserve but a power reserve for a normal length reserve is still nice.









Then maybe my favourite unusual complication is the jump seconds

Power reserve - because I’m yet to own an automatic that hasn’t stopped at night. It doesn’t happen often, but every time it does, it’s annoying. And I want the indicator on the dial where I can see it at a glance, like a fuel gauge on a dashboard.

The older and less active I get, the more I need a power reserve indicator. I’ll have watches without it, but only if they’re not ‘main’ watches, and are at the lower end of the price scale - or if they’re hand-wind.

Maybe I could live without a power reserve if I was Italian...

After all these years, automatics still don’t work properly. 🙂
