    Camera lens help

I've got a Fuji camera (Xm1) that I'd like to sort out with a new prime lens - cos it only came with a kit short zoom lens when I "acquired" it

I've seen two that I'm confused about ... maybe they're just two very similar one designs , but I'm not why they would be so close - maybe it's just something I'm missing

    1st is a 10mm/F2.8 http://www.samyang-lens.co.uk/samyan...s-cs-lens.html

    2nd is a 12mm/F2.0 http://www.samyang-lens.co.uk/samyan...-ncs-lens.html

Apart from the F difference, how much different will these two be ?

and neither are fisheye are they ?, cos they do a 8mm described as a fisheye http://www.samyang-lens.co.uk/samyan...heye-lens.html (and I don't really want a fisheye, I just want a good wideangle)

Any advice would be gratefully accepted - I can get either at £230 ish

All things being equal from an image quality standpoint, I'd take the wider aperture lens every time. All things *not* being equal, I'd take the one that is rated as being sharper every time. That being said, I have no clue if that's the case here. Another thing to consider, from the specs, it looks like the 10mm lens is almost three times as heavy. If you can google the two and get a sense of what others think. Keep in mind, both are manual focus only.

If I had to guess, I would say these are not fisheye (no mention of it), though i may have typical wide angle distortion effects.

OK after some quick reading, I would go for the 12mm on the fugi. The 10mm I read is more of a DSLR lens, but with a fugi mirrorless mount option. The 12mm is more suited for the mirrorless cameras, and I read one instance where it was thought to be the sharper lens, though I would like to read up more about that and see image sample comparisons before making final choice.

    So wider aperture check
    sharper? check
    smaller and lighter check

2 mm less wide - no big deal, take a step back.

Some more reading - the 12mm is looking really good:

Hey thanks for that great advice gnuyork already

Now to go and absorb it

I've got a couple of these Samyang lenses already (for my pana MFT) and they're fine so the quality (for the price of course) is very good.

... and yes I was aware that they're all manual focus and aperture.

12 mm would be an 18mm full frame equivalent on your camera, correct? In my view that's more than enough wide angle. I have found in the past that 24 mm was enough for me to handle without things getting pretty weird.
Here is a pretty good article on how to use wide angle lenses to the best advantage:

Yeah on the Fuji it's equiv to 18mm and on the Pana (if I bought it for that ) would be equiv to a 24 ?... I think

If I'm to use this (virtual) freebie of a Fuji , I've gotta get another lens for it other than the short zoom that it came with... so I must stick to giving the Fuji some TLC in the form of a new lens.

I'd probably go with something like this if I wanted a prime lens.

Your zoom would be wide enough for me I think.

My buddy is in love with his xf27 lens, so that is a great suggestion.

I listened to all the advice (and appreciated it) , but went with the 12mm Samyang, tracking tells me it will be with me at lunchtime , so camera is coming to work....

Trouble is there's no real nice 'things' to photograph there , but maybe on the way home tonight if the weather is kind..........
Watch this space... the fuji might just get some more time in my hands now.... I've heard good things about the 85mm on it too , so maybe that's next .....
