Xpeda Amelia: what she wouldn’t have wanted
Tribute to the pioneering aviatrix is misconceived and just odd
https://www.ablogtowatch.com/xpeda-a...nd-her-legacy/
A pilot watch paying tribute to Amelia Earhart - great idea!
But this is an odd mix of lazy and try too hard
Lazy: Bell & Ross by numbers styling - check
Uninspired NATO - check
Spurious callouts to her planes design - check
Try too hard: Open heart with ‘umbra’ window of photosensitive glass that darkens in sunlight like the visors of pilot helmets
Except that pilot’s visors *don’t* do that. You have 2 visors, one tinted and one clear, under a cover
And Earhart didn’t wear a helmet (hard skid lids came in with jets)
And photochromic glass wasn’t invented til the 60s
Bottom line: Earhart was the first woman to solo the Atlantic (not a small feat)
A tribute watch that actually paid some kind of attention to what she did and who she was, would be nice
This isn’t that watch

Although it is, perhaps the watch that she deserved:
https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/e...air-navigation
Unlike Amy Johnson who literally crossed the Atlantic to learn navigation from Weems, Earhart didn't have time. This is why Amy Johnson had to be finished off by a destroyer after being shot down while flying up the Thames so she could descend knowing that she was not going to hit anything - after crossing the country in eight eighths cloud with a cloud base at a few hundred feet and we've only just found where Earhart crashed after she got lost in perfect conditions.
Or am I too cynical?
As a kid I lived a short cycle ride from White Waltham where, in the late seventies, there were still people who offered long stories and short flights in exchange for odd jobs and chores. The shooting down part of the story came much later, but the certainty of quite a few people that Johnson simply didn't get lost whatever the conditions makes it rather believable.

Only if they can find a piece of her airplane to make dials from.
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Xpeda Amelia: what she wouldn’t have wanted
I’d go for a 30s-esque bicompax chrono, probably champagne dial, with a pithy quote from her on the back
