Until I saw the chatter on social media starting yesterday afternoon, I'll admit that I'd completely forgotten that it was time for the MTV Video Music Awards. And wait, they were taking place in New Jersey? I kind of had to tune in, right? Well, I'm glad I did. As soon as the red carpet started, I started doing my usual – checking out wrists – and I was rewarded for it. My favorite spot of the night was actually a three-for-one deal, with the Jonas Brothers each wearing something noteworthy on what proved to be a big night for them, with six nominations and one win. Let's get into it.
Alright, first up we've got Mr. Joe Jonas, who you can clearly see rocking a Richard Mille in the image above. If you lean in a bit closer (or do a quick search around the web), you'll quickly discover that the watch in question is the limited edition RM 11-01, produced for Italian soccer legend Roberto Mancini. The giveaway? The combination of the rose gold case and that bright green crown. There is a titanium version of this watch as well, just in case you were wondering, but the combination of gold and green is something pretty special. Joe Jonas is a known watch guy and it's no surprise that he brought some serious heat to the VMAs this year.*
Nick Jonas wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin (as seen on Sophie Turner's Instagram).
Next, we've got Nick Jonas. You can't see his wrist in the photo above, since he's a bit busy accepting the group's award for Best Pop Video Of 2019 (for the song "Sucker," which you can watch here), but on his left wrist all night was an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin. To be more specific, it was the reference 26522OR, which is the rose gold version of the watch with the deep blue dial. In Talking Watches 2, John Mayer shared a similar watch with us, but his was in yellow gold and with a matching gold dial. I thought I spotted it early in the night during the pre-show red carpet, but knew I had gotten it right when I saw this Instagram post from actress Sophie Turner, who happens to be Nick's wife. Two down, one to go.
At far right, you can see Kevin Jonas wearing the Palatial Classic Manual Big Date from Jacob & Co.
Finishing things off, brother Kevin Jonas rolled up to the awards show in Newark, New Jersey, wearing a Palatial Classic Manual Big Date from Jacob & Co. It's a bit tough to tell from a distance, but I believe he's wearing an older model in stainless steel with a black guilloché dial and steel markers (here's a similar piece from the current collection with rose gold accents). This is a slightly more esoteric choice and I have to admit it was the hardest to identify for me. Luckily, those distinctive lugs and the asymmetrical dial layout finally rang a bell in my brain and Jack was able to confirm my suspicion.
