Poker
Anyone play? I play Texas hold em with 3-5 buddies each month or so, not massive stakes - I might to lose a maximum of £40 in an evening which isn't too bad, or win the same like I just did. Either way it's good fun. Anyone play online? I never fancied that myself. I don't gamble in any other way at all.

Played it in China just so I could have the pleasure of watching Chinese people taking the handful of American guys who lived there to the cleaners. Through pure chance I did rather well very quickly, so let them win some of it back before ducking out.
Another time played it in a kinda winner takes all set up and came second. Could see that while I was better than all the other beginners, I was clearly inferior to the girl who won, and took the hint

No - gambling against casinos and bookies is a mugs game because they'll likely win. Playing poker against your mates is a fair game.

I have to avoid gambling, in my teens snd 20s I was a demon for the bookies and poker machines..I think I eventually grew up and realised it was a lose lose.
I see all these online poker sites but I wouldn't even go on one, as it could be a slippery slope. I actually worked with a guy who was being mentored for online gambling, told me it would take 2 years training to ensure profit, maybe he was deluding himself but I figured if guys like him are on there I wouldn't have a hope.
Poker night with pals are great craic and 5 draw would be my favourite..other than that it'd the Grand National annually, which I use to laugh at others doing, when I thought I was beating the book makers

I can only wish I had a group of buddies to play Poker with every couple weeks (or once a month).

One of the WUS guys is a professional player IIRC. Can't remember who though, just that he was a Cafe regular for a bit.

I used to play a lot of hold 'em back in the day on the road working jobs. Several of the guys would get together when the shift was over, put in $20 and play to the last man, no limit style. It was a fun way too blow of steam.
Played a few times at a casino, but I figured that was for entertainment purposes only. Sit down at a 3/6 table with a rack and three hours later leave with $60. Three hours of free drinks and entertainment for $40 isn't bad I my book.
Never played online, doubt I ever will.

Savagely Average
I miss playing, use to join 2 or 3 different groups every month or two. I was luckier than most. When it reached the point that I was "getting use to the winnings", I stopped. That is not why I started, and I saw it leading down a road I did not want to go down. Now I occasionally play in official events, but they are typically for fake money and charity. I still *occasionally* play 3 card when I visit the casino, but I stop after I have covered the cost of the evening.
