When it comes to shopping for vintage watches on eBay, it can be a gold mine, but it can also be a minefield. Our very own Christoph McNeill (you all might know him as Instagram’s @VintageDiver) wrote a must-read, common sense guide to buying vintage watches on eBay (check out Part 1 and Part 2). So if you’re looking for a vintage watch, but are still a little nervous diving head-first into those murky waters, then don’t worry—we’re here to help. *Today, we have another installment of eBay Finds, our series where we highlight some great vintage gems looking for a new home. Happy hunting!
Tissot
’50s-era Men’s Dress Watch with a Black and Gold Bullseye DialMan, this vintage Tissot is a real looker! It has an absolutely amazing two-tone black and gold bullseye dial, and combined with the stepped bezel the frontside of the watch just has a great mid-century charm. The 34.5mm wide yellow gold-filled case appears to be unpolished and features sharp lugs. This beauty even has the original signed crown. According to the seller, the automatic movement has even been serviced, so it should be good to go as soon as you get it.
Bulova
1925 Dress Watch
Here is a vintage 1925 Bulova in amazing condition with what I believe to be its original dial with painted radium numerals. The dial is in superb condition with an elegant patina that looks great for a watch that’s nearly 100 years old, and those radium-filled cathedral hands are oh so sweet. The white gold-filled case looks great, too, and it’s really exemplary of watches from that era.
As a bonus, there is also an engraving on the case back. I love little personal touches like this as they really do add to the story of the watch, and who doesn’t want a good story to go along with their vintage watch?
Mido
Swissonic LED Watch
The Bulova Computron heritage release this year was met with resounding praise, and for good reason. The retro, wedge-shaped driver’s watch is just so super cool, and with the ever-increasing popularity of mechanical watches, it was a welcome novelty. Well, how about an original LED driver’s watch? No, it’s not a Computron, but this Mido Swissonic has oodles of vintage swagger, and it’s in excellent working condition. It probably came on a bracelet originally, but this model is pretty scarce so beggars can’t always be choosers. Put the right strap on this ’70 masterpiece and you’ll be stylin’!
Mido
Multifort Extra
When it rains, it pours! I found a second great Mido this week, but in a much different style than the Swissonic. This little 31mm Multifort Extra has a fantastic look with the inset hour markers and lancette hands. The case appears to look original, and I believe the crown is as well, though the seller doesn’t provide a clear photo of it straight on. It’s powered by a clean, early bumper movement, which can be finicky, but are otherwise really cool if they’re in good condition. This is a great looking watch for someone with a smaller wrist, or for someone who likes smaller watches in general.
