You might remember that we took a sneak peek at two rather unusual SM300 variants, LAST YEAR; the Seamaster 300 Lapis Lazuli & Malachite models.
Omega officially released them last week, on Halloween – the spooky release date has no real significance that I'm aware of; unless of course you’re easily scared by green faces!
This is the Seamaster Malachite, an acquired taste for someone that has acquired wealth because it has a Swiss price-tag of 32’500CHF!!!!
This year’s new SM300 model is delivered in 18K yellow gold and for admirers of precious materials; it is distinguished by a malachite dial.
The decorative stone, malachite offers a wide range of green tones, harmoniously distributed in concentric areas.
It has been appreciated since antiquity and used extensively in the decoration of sacred temples, palaces and churches.
For the dial of this watch, Omega has sourced the most captivating malachite from South Africa.
Omega has crafted the SM300's 41mm case in 18K yellow gold. The same material is used for the facetted hands as well as the bezel – with its polished ceramic ring and OMEGA Ceragold diving scale.
The watch is presented on a green leather strap and is driven by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8913.
The movement and the full watch have been officially certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Thoughts? The green looks a bit gaudy in some shots while in others it looks pretty tasteful.
I’d take a good old fashioned Stainless steel with a black dial over this any day of the week.
