    Don't be absurd - that's a terrible 1st watch.

Shocking. I can't think of a more manly watch than the APRO.

I was about to say a Rolex, particularly a SS sport model...by the time she got to college, the watch will probably cost more in the market (if the market doesn’t crash)

I don’t see RO as macho or girly watch..I see RO as ROme manhole cover

A young WIS in the making. It's all downhill from here.

Well, you'd hope some parental acquired WISdom would be imparted along the way, thus avoiding (at least) some of the potential pitfalls.

A field watch with a dark toned dial - I approve!

There is nothing wrong with his logic. Start with the best.

No because then the only way is down! Like my motorbike - wish I'd worked my way up through the CCs.

Actually I thought I selected your post not mlcor’s to quote. I would never see a RO as the best. I’ll never understand the appeal of that watch. I was talking about the polar Explorer II ( 42 mm of course). That has always been what I’ve considered the best everyday watch. Though I see your point here. Several other watches have suffered in comparison to the Explorer II.
