I don't think anyone has suggested it, but maybe sailcloth?

Out of left field, maybe give sailcloth a try.

I'm not sure it would be hot enough, but that's just a guess.

You could probably torch a sailcloth with it

I'm not sure but is there a strap material made from something usually found on boats, perhaps a form of hard wearing cloth?

I keep finding straps that are actually leather with a sailcloth embossing - anyone make straps actually out of sailcloth?

Not an owner, but the only thing I'd change would be to go with loose mesh. It's more relaxed, comfortable, retro and diver-ish.

I'll test it out and let you know. I've got a bunch of old NATO straps that I don't wear anymore.

Funny, but from the beginning of the thread, I was ready to suggest Sailcloth. Then I to your post. Then I got to your second post...

I like the Black Bay on NATOs too....

I was just looking at a couple of options and checking prices and shipping.
A delivery from Deluca Straps was quoted as $30 for FedEx
Hodinkee quoted $97 for UPS to deliver to me !!! Bit steep for a $150 purchase.

What are you buying? Lead shorts? Those prices are outrageous. Are both those companies shipping from the USA?
