**** The curse of the lol ****

I just realize that the lol it getting addictive in society I use it way to much as full stops at time or as pause in thought do we in general use them to much. I for one need to go to AA on this ( almost putting in haha there oops I did )

So does the written langue suffer from this or is it just naturally evolution of writing as we do not write like Shakespeare did which is a shame I have dyslexic but I would love to see all the comment written in such prose and style.

What got me thinking on this was an ad on the bay which had lol smiles and all sorts of these things.it quiet put me off buying the watch because of it don't ask me why just did. so own up who else is addicted to the lol haha hehe and so on and when did they first start appearing. I would assume in the late 90's with the mobile phone and texting maybe so what is your take on this ?

I think if something actually makes you laugh out loud then go write it, otherwise leave it out. Don't put it in business communications.

    Language evolves.

think with some they use it as a form of body langue as some things can be read more ways then one but if you put a smile or a wink then it apply's to a playful tug of a tail rather then being rude. but I think it horse for course to a degree I mean on a chat forum it well expected or accepted .but on a bay item not really you want to see it all business like then it give you a feeling of quick quality service well it does me . it you see one with lol and haha all the rest then It makes it seem to casual and sloppy or is that just me ?

No - I agree - I wouldn't buy a watch from someone who says lol on the advert.

Whenever I see it (a lot) - I always ask myself: Did they really ?..... In most cases, I doubt it
It seems to be far too frequently used as a 'get out' for I messed up (polite version).
Some people have opinions - The rest of us have taste.

I am going to try and de lol myself think I might use s.a.l.t (smile a little then .. ) instead .

but it something I have notice seem to be cropping up every where now

**** The curse of the lol ****

I tend to use it on the forums more than in real life. I use it like smilies to try to make sure that my posts come across in the way that I intend them to without upsetting anyone. In real life there is a lot that can come across with your facial expressions and tone of voice that is lost when you are just typing a post.

    Ps lol
