Trimming a NATO strap - For Raza

I didn't want to further hijack the thread where this question was asked so here's a brand new thread!

Raza wanted to know if a creme brulee torch would suffice for sealing a trimmed NATO strap.

I happen to have some spare un-used NATO straps lying around so I decided to experiment.

The short answer is "Yes" you can use a small torch to seal the trimmed end of a nylon strap.

I started in a way many would expect, with a nickle to give me a guide:

However, I found that the tight quarters were too much for my dull scissors and I was too lazy to look for a very sharp exacto knife or something similar. I ended up free-handing the trim.

    The tools of the seal:

    The results:

For a quick/dirty attempt I think it turned out pretty good. I held the torch away from the strap and slowly moved toward it, once I could see the melting process begin I went around the edge to seal the whole thing. I ended up doing a secondary trim and re-seal attempt which didn't turn out awesome but hey, it's my first try. Overall, I think the creme brulee torch is a success.

Cool! Now, would you care to share a recipe for Creme Brulee'? (Never had it).
    Regards, T Bone

Even a broken watch shows correct time once or twice a day. I ought to know, I have a few!

    Nice work and good pictures.

If done right, Creme Brulee is awesome and worth trying.

I don't have a recipe oddly enough we've never made Creme Brulee at home lol I ALWAYS get it when it's an available dessert though! I love it!

I make it at home and it's an awesome dessert. One time I tried infusing bourbon and vanilla beans in the mix. Not bad at all.

I've sealed a NATO with just a lighter. Although créme brûlée would no doubt be tastier.

I cut the extra piece of fabric off all my Nato's making them a single piece. I use a lighter to seal off the ends.

Are you cutting them off because of the thickness?
