    Thanks and Happy New Year

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year, and thank the owners and mods for creating and maintaining such a wonderful little internet refuge. I'm happy to say I've met and become friends in person with a few of our IWL members, and that just makes this place even more special.

Thank you to everyone here for making this a pleasant refuge! Happy new decade (even if we think of 2021 as next decade... )
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Now, now. Those of us old enough to remember the height of the cold war and nuclear air raid drills (I remember wondering, even at a young age, what good it was going to do to hide in the hallway with our heads down if a nuke hit anywhere nearby) know that things are pretty much always unsettled. We humans have managed not to annihilate ourselves so far, although I admit technology is making it easier and easier to do all the time.

Personally, I think World War III is already underway--it's just being fought primarily with virtual weapons and economics...

We didnít have the drills, but I was convinced growing up that I wouldnít reach 18, due to nuclear attack

Actually I feel optimistic now, in counterpoint to a lot thatís in the media
I think people are more engaged with whatís going on in the world, and in the mood to do stuff to make a difference
My faith is in people, not politicians (or influencers [shudder]

I do not disagree with this.
