Wilford Brimley, age 85. Was an actor. I mostly recall him for his commercials such as those for Quaker Oats.

    Tis indeed fab
I went there in pilot uniform and they let me sit in the prototype Mosquito

It smelled like being inside a wardrobe :-)
It's the final countdown! PM me before they're all gone!

Bummer, I liked every character he played.

I knew him best from John Carpenter's 'The Thing' - one of the (if not 'the') most 'atmospheric' films I've seen... in no small part aided by (another 'recently departed' ) Ennio Morricone's soundtrack.

He had an “old” vibe long before he was actually old. He turned 50 when “Cocoon” was filmed - he was at least 20 years younger than the other actors portraying retirement home residents.

I’d forgotten he was in The Dirty Dozen.

I can't think of another movie with a cast of this magnitude.
