Just in time for the Triple Crown!
Since Longines sponsors the Triple Crown, I figured this would be the right time to pick up this piece, the Longines Heritage Column Wheel Chronograph. I've been eyeing it at my local AD for a while and they finally gave me a deal I couldn't refuse.
Pretty basic layout, but I like that. The size is a civilized 39mm (some say 40mm), but it wears larger because of no bezel (no tachymeter, telemeter, or t-anything). I like the cream dial and it goes well with the alligator leather strap. I'd prefer a deployant, but the buckle is nice, and this is the first strap in forever that actually fits me. I'm almost always between holes on a standard strap.
Legibility is good, which was a concern with silver hands/markers on a light dial. There's even a decent amount of lume, which is nice, but it doesn't take away from the subtle look. The movement is nicely finished for this price point and the blued column wheel is a nice touch. All in all, it's a nice fairly dressy chrono that's pretty versatile.

Really nice Longines, rfortson. Do you have any favorites at today's Belmont Stakes?

Not really. I guess it would be cool to see another Triple Crown winner, but I don't think it will happen.
