There's snow, and then there's SNOW

A couple of pics off twitter of my home town. They set a snow record, 30" in 24 hours in town. Hinterlands got more.

Wonder how long before they see their cars again.
See that teak table lamp? I have one. I don't remember who made them but they're very valuable. Mid 1950s.

That was the year we had 5 storms, each over 3 feet of snow, within a three week period, and no, there was only about 45 minutes throughout the entire ordeal where I may not have been able to get out of my driveway and on to the street.

Tons of snow removal gear here, and before the storm starts, salt is applied, when it starts, plows stay on top of it. We got 4 or 5 inches here yesterday and it was not even a minor inconvenience...like it never happened.

We moved to the Cape when I was 6 months old, so I grew up there. While we generally didn't get as much snow as the Boston area, due to the maritime influence, we would get some real doozies.
While living on Otis AFB, probably 1959-60 I remember a big one. Snow was so deep there was a crew running around base housing in one of these

a surplus M3A half-track (sans machine gun if course) to pick up anyone required on the flight line or people that needed to get to the hospital.
I remember it looked like the guys driving were having a blast.
