A visit this morning from our local pterodactyl of doom, but luckily the webbing over the koi pond did its job. No sushi today for the blue heron.

I love herons. They seem to fly as slowly as possible.

They walk rather slowly too! Early this morning I found it in a slow motion stroll around the fish pond, carefully studying the net to see if it could get through. When it saw me, it gracefully soared up to this high branch, where it waited. It gave me enough time to go into the house and get the better camera, with optical zoom. It's probably 25 meters up in the tree, and 75 meters away in this photo. Eventually, it got tired of waiting and flew off. This same individual is almost certainly the one that ate 5 of our fish in late March, before we got the net over the pond.

The young bucks are starting to go crazy, my yard is a game of chase everyday this time of year.

And this dude was laying out in the rain watching a group of does just outside of view.

Dark Eyed Junko - two couples often come up to me asking for treats. Ultra cuteness.

Finally, a nesting pair of "troglodytes". I love house wrens. Not only are they really tiny but they'll fight you over just about anything and they eat a ridiculous amount of pests for their small size.
