    I for one, am fascinated by stuff like that; would have got a real kick out of watching those implosions.
    That's how we learn new things about the materials & construction of 'things' by pushing them to the limits and beyond.

    From my knowledge of diving and the deep, you have more to worry about than your watch at 6000 metres or 1000 for that matter.

    1000m is where sunlight stops, and beyond the test depth (max peacetime operating depth) of nuclear subs
    So, short of being covered against the possibility of dropping your watch into the Marianas Trench, why do you even need 1000m?

    Maybe they need to rethink the materials.. creatures essentially made of jelly can happily swim around at those depths
