Thread: Probing into blues

    Probing into blues

I probably stated more than once on the forum that I wasn't a fan of blue dials. Well, I'm still not, but when checking stuff out when my Zodiac came back from repair, I saw this:

And I thought that it could be a kind of blue that I wouldn't mind. At the moment I would actually prefer it to my black dial version.

As many of you know already, I won't touch another Zodiac with a barge pole, so here's the challenge: show me watches with blue dials that don't actually scream 'blue' in your face.

    Other requirements:
    - auto/mechanical
    - no gild
    - 38-40mm dia
    - below or around €1k
    - no typical (ie Sub-ish, SKX-ish, Sumo-ish etc) divers

I know there was one blue-dialled watch I liked, but I totally can't remember what it was and what kind of blue it had.

One candidate that I immediately think of is this recently announced Seiko:

Another one, and an example of what kind of divers I could consider, is this Oris 65 (although I remember trying one on and it didn't do anything for me):

And don't you dare post suggestions without pics!

Not a fan of that Oris. Possible blue options in a similar price range:

    Longines Hydroconquest

    Rado Captain Cook

    Oris Aquis

To be honest, I had to choose something different to celebrate my #12000 post.

Good to see it’s a Columbia release and not some public domain Andalusian imprint.

    And congratulations on your landmark.

As for blue watches - I can’t think of anything nicer than the blue Alpinist.

    Just perfect!

Edit: not to derail the thread but I have a few copies of this - on vinyl (stereo), on vinyl (mono), CD, and digital download , and maybe even cassette tape, ha ha. And it's not even my favorite Jazz record. Thelonious gets that title - Straight No Chaser - But I do like me some Kind of Blue on a Sunday morning with coffee.

^ This, the old one (good luck) or the new, the new one looks so good. I want the black dial one.

The dial can go from blue to silver depending on the light and angle

Nope, of the suggestions Captain Cook would be my choice but it's too much like a traditional diver (or Sub, for that matter). Blocks and blobs as hour markers are not my thing.

Hmm... I didn't like it when it came out, but that's because it wasn't my colour. Looking at it now, we could say the blue is rather understated, indeed. Still, I think I'd be more inclined to go for the new one to boycott the ridiculous Hodinkee action, if nothing else.

An interesting take -- I wouldn't say it's my style, but I like it!

Ok so i'll stay away from divers.

    Few entry level GS:

Love this one since it has the better GS case IMO.

These are a bit more sporty and HEQ.

    Something in two tone?

At 44mm it may be big for you.

    Hopefully something clicks here.
    Cheers,

    Michael
