As well as gilt stuff and non-mechanicals, but I accepted a long time ago that people aren't necessarily as a--- umm... strict when it comes to sticking to criteria as I am.

    With me, always safer!

    Reminded me of this:

which actually might be this first blue watch that I'd considered and couldn't remember in my original post.

    Hopefully something clicks here.
    Cheers, buddy!

I'll just add that this thread isn't a proper hunt and may but doesn't have to result in a purchase. It's more like field recon, so we don't have to sweat it.

I must have missed that since the original samples exceeded it a bit. Besides it's just a guideline. Always good to know if you go up a bit more.

I did have a few well under that.

Indeed, the new Alpinist (should say newly announced, not the ones with cyclops) looks so much better to me... I prefer the black dial, but either of the other two would be a very close second.

Race you, then. (I think what you're calling black I called grey, but we're both right).

Probably this will be too small and beyond the stated price

It’s around 36mm and I don’t know the current price

In the affordable realms, I think Orient does blue better than most. They tend to get that sunburst effect that goes from black in some light, to deep midnight blue with complex reflections. In fact my only blue watch (currently) is an Orient, although others have come and gone from the hoard.

Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Yes and yes. Can't decide if I like the 7-8 solution, but I certainly find it funny.

I've been wanting an Orient Star for quite a while now but haven't found THE one yet. The standard date with carbon fibre dial has got me the closest to pulling the trigger so far:
