Thread: Probing into blues

  1. #21
If you want to take into consideration some micro-brands, the choice is almost endless; there are literally dozens and dozens out there.

However - as you already noticed - choosing a watch with a dial out of the traditional white/silver/black world from pics, is tricky. Light conditions, software manipulation and colour balance can be particularly misleading.

From direct experience - although I don't own one - I find the blue on the Oris 65 quite appealing. Not sure it can be had under 1k, though.

Not so much when looking at this, though:

(Pic stolen from the other place).

But, in honesty, I'm not that excited by this blue version, regardless of which pic is truer to the real life presentation. There's some kind of balance in that Zodiac in the OP that doesn't make the blue pop up at all -- you appreciate the whole and it just so happens that the dial is blue, if that makes sense. I'm pretty sure the Alpinist would look much more balanced on a brown strap, too.

I've got these kickstart stuff coming in, may not meet all your dial parameters . . .

    This blue:

It's the second time I'm passing on a variant of 556 because of the non-unique marker at 12.

A cracking do-it-all watch, the 556, but the hands on that one look undernourished compared with the hands of the basic model.

They look OK without the comparison, though.

I did notice that the hands were borderline short, but I like them more than the basic all-white ones.

I found everyone of these priced at or under (Some well under) $1K.

This comes in 39mm and 42mm.

The Bulova is under $400. Sorry was too nice of a reissue diver to pass on.

Never thought blue+green would work, but it's working for me somehow here.
(Note that it's coming from a guy who's partially colour-blind and had trouble telling if the strap was orange or lighter olive, figured it must be olive and got corrected by a friend ).

But I'm also using this post as an excuse to say that if you've been leaning towards any Unimatic, then this is the best time to pull the trigger, as the cause is noble:
From today to April 12th Unimatic will be donating 25% of all our e-commerce proceeds to Italian Protezione Civile to help battle the Covid-19.

    More on their website, obviously.
