    Bugger - stuck in Poland

The Poles are shutting down air and rail transport from midnight tomorrow. Initially for ten days, but can be extended for, well... who knows?

We could be here for a long time...

Difficult times, Alan. Hope we'll all manage to overcome this global menace. Let's keep the moral high and sharp enough to go through this storm.

I was wondering if that would happen to you. Good luck Alan.

Small compared to some, but no more college basketball for me. I’m beyond disappointed.

What luck - we are saved!

We rang some friends to check the government announcement - which was as we feared. As we were speaking to our female friend, her partner was ringing a friend who is... a travel agent.

Details were relayed and we’re flying Austrian Airways to Heathrow via Vienna. There were three seats and we have two of them. And that’s the only three seats from Kraków to London on any airline. We’ll be travelling on a few hour’s sleep, if any, and my car’s at another airport but never mind that.

We have papers! It’s like Casablanca.

I'm hearing from medical insiders I know that we should stock up on canned and frozen foods, I believe for the probable 2 week shutdown most of the USA is about to endure. I cannot even imagine the helpless feeling of being stranded in a foreign country. GLAD to see you got papers!!

Glad you’ll make it out. This is affecting our kids more than us, really. We’ve canceled plans to go to a few functions, that’s about it. But our daughter has finished her grad school stuff and is looking for a job. Not great timing for her. And our son will be going to grad school but now can’t visit any of them before deciding where to go (decision deadline is April 15, things aren’t going to be sorted by then). There’s also a chance they’ll cancel graduation ceremonies (end of April), although that will disappoint his parents more than him.

All of it small sacrifices compared to many.

OTOH, if I hear one more tv news person refer to people over 60 as “old,” or worse, “elderly,” I’m gonna hunt them down and punch them in the face.
