I found the Mallard, which ticks all my boxes:

Wonder if there's a UK vendor.

As far as I can tell that's the sole vendor. Will do some reading up before passing the details onto my friend

Esp that crystal. He paid £80 for it back in the day and though seemingly discontinued I found one online for £55.

Keeping to this style and roughly to this size (37mm) how much more would an equivalent with sapphire be? Would like to give him an option if I can.
That strap combo is a killer.

    I recommend -

    Seiko SGG715

The Seiko SGG711 is perfect for me, but not sapphire.

It's not got sapphire, but the CWC G10 ticks all your other boxes.

We've already got a non sapphire watch lined up for him. The addition of the sapphire is the whole point of the recommendation I want to make....

But reading between the lines, isn't the point that he batters his watches, in which case the plexiglass of the G10 may actually be preferable - less brittle so won't shatter and scratches are easy to polish out.

The Seiko he already has the 13 to 24 numerals and a date window, I'm presuming that he won't want to lose them
