A Couple of Useful Items

If you're a half vast handyman like me, you might find these items useful some day.
Our old(er) dining room table developed a loose leg and got very shaky. It's one of those 1930s Duncan Fyffe style with curved legs coming out of two pedestals. I turned the table upside down and the loose leg just came off with a slight tug. It had old brown hot glue that had dried up so I scraped it off as best I could. There were a couple of dowels that looked like they had never been glued at all.
For the repair I used:

1. Gorilla wood glue. It has a handy applicator tip, requires only about 30 minutes of clamping and reaches 80% strength in a couple of hours. It's easy to clean up any excess with a wet paper towel. Note this isn't the normal Gorilla glue but specially formulated for wood.
2. Elmer clamping tape. The legs on the table were curved and no way a normal F or C clamp would fit. This tape is super stretchy and only sticks to itself. You wrap it around the joint stretching as you go, then stick it, and wrap it around again. A couple of strips held the leg securely in place.

After leaving overnight I removed the tape and turned the table back over. It's in service again and feels pretty solid.

Ah yes the amount of things I use tape to hold things together. At work we joke that it's good for fixing leaks up to about 5 bar (that's about 70psi for our colonial cousins).
