I don't mean to make light of the situation; but this is the first thing that came to mind on seeing the above:

Some people have opinions - The rest of us have taste.

Wow! Those are some amazing pictures.

    Is the fire under control?

Not at all. Numerous friends and acquaintances have been evacuated.

Nasty, hope everyone is ok. Living in SE Australia, we are all too familiar with bush fires.

Virtually no chance of it spreading. The boreal forest is quite a ways north. A friend was up in PA which is pretty close to some of the fires and she said it was bad there. Smoked out here- maybe. The air quality index goes from 1, which is the best, to 10+ which is hazardous to one's health. We are at 10+ today and it is supposed to be worse tomorrow.

This is not my picture but this is what the Bessborough hotel looks like from five blocks away.

Here is the picture I took of it today:

    And then... it got worse.

The lowest average visibilty last year was 2.4 km with average visibility being over 20 kilometres.
It was under 800 metres this afternoon.

We get some grass fires here but we are all farmland, so they don't usually go wild, but north of PA where the forest starts gets a lot of forest fires. We don't usually get the smoke this bad though.
