Incoming (this may take awhile) : CTAPT "Soviet Omega Ranchero"
So...while staring at the screen all day at the information that my Ebel Regulateur was locked up in the Post Office about a mile from my house all day today (note to self - get to PO before the carrier leaves in the a.m.) I was browsing Omegas (Casino Royale was on TV all day - except for the 3 hours watching USA dismantle Japan in the Women's World Cup). Somehow, what should appear but something optimistically described as "Soviet Omega Ranchero". News to me (hint: lots of things are news to me!) A little poking found a few more, more older and smaller, some contemporaneous but in worse condition. The price was trivial, but (just for sport) I made an offer about 20% below the Buy It Now price....which was accepted almost immediately (time zone difference probably helped). I'm probably overpaying - but seriously, how much can it matter?
As backup, I have a bid in on a similar item, but I fully expect to be sniped in about 13 hours and will not resist - this was one of those where I "fire and forget" a reasonable bid and don't worry about whether I "win" or not. (I suppose it would be useful to have another, for parts....)
So...Slava 2602, ca. 1960, 36mm (just fine on my puny left wrist). Now...I wait - should arrive in about a month.
La lutte elle-même vers les sommets suffit à remplir un cœur d'homme; il faut imaginer Sisyphe heureux.

That's a lovely looking piece! Vintage watches are a gift for those of us with smaller wrists

nice condition and a solid little watch they did some good no nonsense function over design pieces in the 60's as it was the 17 jewel there was a 27 jewel as well and don't quote me on it a 24 jewel had a couple but they was just for parts so depending on cost a good little buy

Is the word Omega just being wielded as a descriptor of style?
(and is descriptor a word?)

Yes, looks like it, DA
'Great vintage men's winding watch START (CTAPT)
made in former SSSR, known as Soviet Omega Ranchero.' is a description for a similar watch on the bay
I've seen these before, but not explicitly described like this.
The movement was used in various brands - Pobeda, Slava etc, and in a 60s watch will have striping, but not as ornately finished as 50s Soviet watches
Start - Старт - is Russian for launch and blast-off as well as beginning, so like Raketa - Ракета - a reference to the technical achievements of the space programme
Looks like a nice example - enjoy your new watch(es!), Kenneth
PS my goto affordable Omega-alike is Certina, particularly the Bristol and New Art ranges

S'funny
Being such an Affordables queen, there are many watches that I've first come across as the homage.
Just realised that the Ranchero is what these confected mil style HMTs are channelling :-)
It's the final countdown! PM me before they're all gone!
