    Question Curious Booklet Set?

Has anyone seen these booklets before? It appears to be part of a set and I'm interested in the others.

It has these nice color overlays showing how the movement is assembled. Can't have been cheap to make in 1954, when plastic was pretty cutting edge.

I'm curious why they were made and for whom?

Anybody know about the origin or history of these?

The final image indicating produced under "Transart Patents" is curious - from what I can tell, this might be a reproduction or reprint.

I was always lead to believe they was marketing bluff for prospective customers remember a link I had to a site once about them and I remember this I cut and pasted a while back but never used

The Self-Winding Swiss Watch: The Timekeeper of the Future. Editions Ebauches S.A., Switzerland, 1954. Hard wraps. A small unusual booklet produced in 1954 showing, by the use of transparent layers, how the parts of the automatic self-winding mechanism are applied to a watch movement. The description of how the self-winding mechanism works, and the names of the parts are given in French, English, Spanish, German and Italian. Eleven transparent plastic overlay pages illustrate the workings of this self-winding watch. Twelfth plastic page describes, in five languages, how the automatic device functions.

What was the copyright date, 1984? Anything earlier? That is pretty cool. Nice find!

    Thanks for sharing,

    Dan

Those books are so cool, not seen anything like it before! Horology books are quite addictive. That’s another set to add to the list!

    happy birthday for yesterday

yeah always advise finding and buying old watch books

but am going to try and sort something as do have a load of pdf of old books that was scanned years back it was a thing call survive the ages I think some one had the idea that the old books was getting rarer and had to get plus storing them was a bind. depending on space and availability's I know I use to photocopy them from the library and had a4 paper binders of them ..but pdf came along and was great for storing them with no muss or fuss so as I say got loads so want to see if I can either up load as pdf or try and find a way to cut and paste the contents but not sure how to do that

The books are cool, but I tired of them after a while. Current watchmaking is more of replace the part than repair. And I was never one to find info I need to fix older watches. For example, one would get a pocket watch using a temp compensated balance wheel. It was out of poise. How did it get that way? Was it age? Did a watchmaking bend things to make it time out right? All I know is that I could make the arms of the balance wheel line up and poise the balance by removing metal from the screws, and it typically would not run much better. Given the chance of making a mess of things by either breaking a balance screw or the hairspring collar, I gave up.
