Musings about here, there and everywhere.

There may be others here like me, but I haven't found any threads on this, so I'm curious if I'm alone:

Most of us came from the other island. When a couple of my other island friends let me know about IWL, I joined immediately as many of the folks I'd come to really like and enjoy had already come over. I guess I committed a cardinal sin, when I PM'ed a couple people using the other islands PM system letting them know some of us were also posting here. Clearly that was frowned on. Frowned on so much that my PM rights were stripped. And not for a short period. Stripped permanently. Only they didn't even have the courtesy to write me. They just won't let me PM. But I can receive PM, which is cruddy as a couple people have PM'ed me over the last few months asking for my opinion or help. And I can't respond to them.

I've written the WebMaster multiple times now on the other island asking why I was barred from PM'ing and have not even had the courtesy of a reply. So, I have made the decision to permanently sever ties with that island in total. If there is a way to delete my profile, I would do that as well, but there does not appear to be a way to do that.

If this has happened to you, I'd like to know.

You can ask to have your account marked 'inactive' which would at least stop other people wondering why you weren't replying

It's ok, the water is fine on this island, don't worry. Every time I peek on the public forum lately over there it sounds like a bunch of teeny boopers spewing nonsense with kiddy comments. There are still some great people over there but most of the ones I appreciate and like swam over here.

I wrote the WebMaster asking to deactivate my account. I do think there's a setting there where I can turn off PM all together, so I may do that. I don't want people to think I'm unwilling to respond or help when someone reaches out to me. Very disappointed in that island. Yes I am!

Yes, just about everyone I enjoyed has migrated here. And here is where I'll stay. Yes I will!

I did just go over there and turned off PM altogether. At least people won't be able to PM me and feel I have dissed them by not responding.

I still spend time over there but basically only in a select few threads on the affordables subforum and then Russian and vintage subforum mostly cause a lot of knowledge in a few things that isn't quite as strong here.

This place is much nicer though.
Olma, Oris, Vostok, Casio, Smiths, Luch, Elgin, Fossil, Orient

IWL DIY, Restorations and Mods subforum
