Iíve left the newspaper lying around, artfully open at the right page, but folded so that itís not too obvious. Itís a full-page ad, so hereís hoping that it catches my wifeís eye.

    You think Iím serious?

The advert is breathtaking in its awfulness, and amusing in the way that it doesnít quite name Breguet.

And then it has a name that is a combination of Schauer and Stowa.

Of its type, itís an award-winner.

Well, it made no sense to me, but you managed to trick my irony detector with your detailed, elaborated comment.

Yeah, for decades now, Stauer has placed full page ads in Science News, a magazine that I have been getting since I was a teenager. Most of the ads are as bad as this, and they aren't always for watches. They sell manufactured diamonds and semiprecious jewelry with just as much hyperbole. Their mechanical watches are all a study in the application of Chinese generic movements in fru-fru clothing.

    Here's a typical watch ad:

This one is typical jewelry from last week's Science News:

Too many watches, not enough wrists.

For the record, my tongue-in-cheek indicator ran immediately.

Those ads run in Road & Track, too. I try to quickly flip the page so I don't throw up in my mouth.

Bremont's ad wizards have some competition.
Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
