    **** I was thinking Seiko ****

So been looking on the bay and well seiko was my search but now am see a lot of fake fives out their with them selling higher then some pure seikos are doing. Then theirs lots of nh35 and nh36 mods out their they call them mods but hmmm are they mods one I was looking at had a really cool dial with seiko on it a seiko movements but in a unsigned case so are they seiko thou or not.

I say not... but they are not fakes either... so what are they ? what is your thought on this ?

The watch community’s attitude to Seiko mods can be curious. An aftermarket dial that says ‘Seiko’ is a fake, as is the watch that carries it, but generally they’re accepted.

I prefer my watches unmodded. So either an original Seiko or when I just want a Seiko movement, I buy a watch for cheap on aliexpress, like both my "Escapement Time" models which are just great for the price. Or my "Ruimas" which was even cheaper and also has an NH35.
    Cheers, Sedi

A quartz 5 is completely baffling... why would someone bother to fake a $80 watch? ...but some of the modders have done classy version - Dagaz, Bombfrog, 55 Fathoms dials for example. I think they're fun.
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

    Difficult question, Ismy.

As a matter of principle, a watch branded Seiko (or any other brand) wich did not come from the manufacturer is, at best, a franken and often a fake. On the other hand, It seems the community has become more and more tolerant when it comes to reprehensible business practices (yes, it's an euphemism ) which is really sad.

However, there are some modders offering nice products and there are lots of parts available to the skilful hobbyist and that is great. Would I buy a modded piece still showing the original branding? No. Would I buy a modded piece based on a current production model but not branded and/or showing an original/different branding? Probably yes.
