On June 29th of this year, we showed you a simple looking watch – one made of stainless steel with a simple self-winding movement inside – that got a lot of people excited. I'm talking about the Tudor Heritage Black Bay ONE Reference 7923/001, a unique watch made for Only Watch 2015. The watch is a variation on the existing Tudor Black Bay, with a black bezel and dial and hands that resemble those found on one of Tudor's most collectible and sought after vintage pieces, the reference 7923 seen here when we went inside the Tudor vault. Not only is it great looking, but it's also the very first confirmed unique watch to ever come from Tudor. Now we have a few "live" photos of it – and it looks awesome.
The 7923/001 is a true remake of a historical piece, which is actually in contrast to the existing Tudor Heritage line, which has always been something of an amalgamation of several historical pieces. The result for the Black Bay One is fantastic, and it is a clear indication that Tudor, and the crown that it protects, is paying close attention to its past.
Have a look at the bezel, for example, which is void of the 1-15 minute hash markets that we find on most Black Bays. You also see a red triangle that was found on early Submariners from both Rolex and Tudor.
We also see a bracelet that does not feature end-links, a nod to the bracelets of the 1950s and early 1960s. This bracelet was recently used on the Heritage Ranger, and the look is just fantastic.
The dial of the Tudor Heritage Black Bay One also mimics that of the early 7923 perfectly, and even the printing feels old, with a raised, textured surface. You will also see that this unique watch features a lollipop seconds hand, something that is not found on any other currently produced watches.
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay One will come in a special box, and be accompanied by two straps not available on any other Tudor watches – a grey NATO-style strap and distressed-brown-leather, single-piece strap.
As for the box itself, you may see it below. The Tudor Heritage Black Bay One unique reference 7923/001 will be sold for charity in Geneva by the Phillips Watch Department during the 2015 Only Watch Auction. You may read more here.
