Urwerk has just released their first ladies watch, the UR-106 Lotus. The new Lotus watch exemplifies that same creativity and complexity that Urwerk has been known for since its founding in 1997. This release comes on the heels of Urwerk's recent discussion about the women who influenced them and the creation of their avant-garde brand (see Urwewrk's series on "Remarkable Women").
The Lotus embraces the Urwerk aesthetic whole-heartedly and uses the brand's signature satellite hours in a new way. Three satellite hours are constructed in a tri-part carrousel similar to a flower. Each satellite is complete with four hour numerals that sweep along the minutes scale. Additionally, there is a moon-phase, made of lapis lazuli, which adds to the complexity of the watch.
The UR-106 Lotus comes in two versions: a titanium version with diamonds on the bezel, crown, and buckle; and a black PVC-coated titanium and steel version set with black diamonds. The measurements of the watch are 35mm wide x 49.4mm long x 14.45mm high.
Despite being branded as a "ladies watch" I think this ought to be considered a unisex watch more than anything else – though I also think it's great that URWERK wants to specifically celebrate women. This watch clearly is a product of passion rather than pressure to produce a watch for a woman, which is extremely refreshing. Pricing on the black model as shared with us by URWERK should be CHF 85,000. For more information, have a look at all the details of the UR-106 right here.
