I'm 75% through and so far no eagles. I assume he's saving them for the finale. (or he just wanted a title reminiscent of a popular WW2 novel in a similar vein)

    I just read The Martian.
Obviously written by a complete geek who loves the subject - my kind of guy.
It's a bit like MacGyver on Mars.

Looking forward to the movie now.

    Renée Fleming's autobiog
Interesting to read about a life so different from mine, but with similarities (mastering/ maintaining technical skill and the need for spot-on performance (six monthly checkrides in my case))
Very honest so far, the non-glamorous nuts and bolts of an opera singer's life

I'm on a crime kick at the moment, recently read Tooth and Nail by Ian Rankin and Goldilocks by Ed McBain. Both were great, Goldilocks in particular which did that trick truly excellent crime novels do of highlighting elements of the human condition in a fascinating way whilst also weaving a compelling story.
On to the next in Rankin's Rebus series now, Strip Jack

I've read some crackers so far this year:

SS-GB by Len Deighton - great high concept thriller about Britain under Nazi occupation

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - it's To Kill A Mockingbird, nuff said

Jeckyll and Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson - really entertaining (even though you know the twist) and very thoughtful

Finished up The Snowman by Jo Nesbo - my first try at one his books. Started out really good, then got a little ridiculous. But entertaining at least while I was in Vegas with some downtime.

Before that was Dark Star by Alan Furst - that was good.

Nesbös later books have become a bit much. Really enjoyed the first parts of the Harry Hole series though. Some of the best in the genre.
