As you can imagine I kept a beady eye on the voting and noticed that almost all the votes came when the voting opened or when it was about to close. There was a long stretch (presumably between two weekends?) when just one vote was cast (the 31st iirc)

Which made me wonder if the balance between the photo submission period and the voting period might well be weighted in favour of the former.

I think it was something like:
Wed 16 to Sun 20 - 30 votes
Mon 21 to Fri 25 - 1 vote
Sat 26 to Tues 29 - 6 votes

Perhaps the closing date for submissions should be the Friday before the penultimate weekend?

Looking at October....perhaps the voting period only needs to be from Friday 23 to Sunday 1 Nov?

Another suggestion: when the thread is put up, with the theme for the month, lock the thread for the first few days, so that people have time to think before getting carried away with the rush of submissions? Or at least say here on this thread what October's theme will be?
