Doesn't sound like you'd be very happy with either! Are there no other options? I prefer mechanical to quartz, but that's me - I can't advise you which one to choose. Except that quartz is superior, technically.
The bulova is nice, but that date window bothers me! Unless it's the 6th.

The Dude Abides
Have you looked at a Smiths for another suggestion?

I prefer the Bulova but mainly because I've never warmed up to the Khaki. Still, it looks like the designer beat a watch with a frozen Lumpfish to finalize the design.

I actually think I will be happy with either one. I'm just nitpicking, I guess.
The only other option I can think of right now is, or are, Trasers classic.

I owned PRS-29A. Loved acrylic crystal. It was just tad to small so I sold it.
PRS-29B is in the future plans but now it's just too expensive.

I do like both. To bad that not many stores carry Bulova. When they do they insist on gaudy models

I'm gonna go with WIS evil-way.. when in doubt.. get BOTH.
i like the bulova more since i like cushion case.. i dont mind changing battery.. and i like smooth sweep second hands..
may be you could consider VSA Infantry quartz.. (they also got automatic model with ETA2824 movement)
it is 40mm, slim, got superluminova so the lume is okay, great and Ronda 715 movement with 5-7years battery life, and it has sapphire crystal with AR coating..
