CCCP Time Aurora*
Most watch collectors enjoy finding watches that present as great values while still having some quality specifications to go along with being cost effective. CCCP Time offers a wide range of budget priced watches including some nice dive watch style pieces. According to their website, their watches are designed by Alexander Shorokhoff with inspirations from the fields of Science, Politics and the Arts of the modern political era of the Soviet Union. The subject of this review, the Aurora, has a full retail price point of around $840 USD and can be found highly discounted through on-line retailers, such as Overtstock. Definitely perform some due diligence to find a truly great value. The Aurora model is named after a Russian ship that served the military dating back to the early 1900’s, and is now a museum ship moored in St. Petersburg. The model will meet the expectations of consumers seeking that cost effective dive style watch while providing some quality specifications. You can read more about CCCP Time and their offerings HERE. The Aurora model comes with the following basic specifications:

  • MODEL: CP-7022-44
  • MOVEMENT: Automatic 3 Hands with Date
  • CASE: Stainless Steel
  • BAND: Solid Stainless Steel Bracelet
  • WATER RESISTANCE: 10ATM
  • WARRANTY: 2 Years International

I normally do not have much to say about packaging unless it is extravagant or unique in some way, but I do want to mention the nice lacquered style jewelry case provided by CCCP Time, which is rather atypical for budget priced watches. Of course, with no practical uses, the watch box materials will still end up in the closet with all the other standard type watch boxes accumulated over the years.
The case has a vintage, angular type appearance, which is composed of stainless steel with both brushed and high polished surfaces. The case measures 44mm in diameter, not including the bezel and crown. When factoring in the bezel, the measurement jumps to slightly over 45mm and when the crown is included, an even more significant 52mm. The lug tip to lug tip measurement is 54mm but still has a nice downward angle in the case design to prevent extreme severe overhang on the wrist. The watch, including the bracelet weighs a substantial 220 grams, so taking into account all of the dimensions along with the weight, this model should feel quite hefty on the wrist. However, due to the case and bracelet design, it is still quite comfortable. The polished angular design of the lugs really adds to the overall unique appearance of this model, setting it apart from the vast amount of Sub homage style dive cases flooding the market. A 7.5mm, the push/pull crown is positioned at the 4 o’clock side of the case.* The crown is extremely easy to grasp and engage. The crown on this particular example is quite firm with no play whatsoever in either setting position. I would rather have a screw down crown or better gasket system design to increase the overall water resistance rating of 100M.
