Louis Vuitton Introduces LV Fifty Five

The name Louis Vuitton is synonymous with luxury travel as the brand’s iconic trunks have become collector’s items. Now there’s a new watch that was inspired by the Louis Vuitton trunks and also designed for world travelers.
For several years the Louis Vuitton brand fell into a bit of a rut with all of its watches sharing the same style of case, known as the Tambour. Then along came the Emprise and the Escale, new cases introduced over the last three years. The latest timepiece from Louis Vuitton does not have any of the above but instead has been built from the ground up with a whole new case.
The LV Fifty Five takes its name from converting the famous LV initials to Roman numerals and from there to Arabic numerals—55. The letter V is featured prominently on the watch as it can be seen on the hands, hour-markers, crown and buckle. The LV Fifty Five is available in three sizes for men or women, all housed in a round steel case with a slight curve. The plaques over the lugs bear the brand name and also hold the strap, which is made from leather crafted on-house by Louis Vuitton. Another option is the metal bracelet made from wide single-row links.
As befitting a timepiece from a name famous for world travel, the LV Fifty Five features a horological complication designed for globetrotting as well as various communication tools. The three sizes have different movements with the 31mm model being powered by an ETA 256.031 quartz movement. The 36 mm model has an ETA 2892 self-winding mechanical movement while the 41mm version has an ETA 2893 self-winding mechanism with GMT function.
The LV Fifty Five will go on sale in January 2016 with prices ranging from $3,300 to $5,000.
