The watches and folders thread seems to have generated a lot of interest, so here is the logical next step, an EDC thread (as also suggested by Man of Kent).

I got into EDC 2 or 3 years ago, about the same time I started writing and found I always had a notebook and pen with me, I think I'd always had that boy scout mentality though. The tricky part for me has not been getting carried away with it, so I always try to keep paring things down to items I will definitely get utility from (I probably still carry too much though).
Until recently I always took a 10,000 mAh external battery and micro USB lead for charging my phone on the go, but my new phone reliably gets through the day on a single charge, so I've been able to jettison that.

I spilt my stuff into 2 camps: pocketable and baggable. The pocket stuff is always with me, the bag stuff will be in whatever bag I'm using that day (a Targus backpack on the days I'm working and small Lowe Alpine rucksack or 5.11 Bailout bag on the days I'm not. If I'm going out of the house for any length of time I take a bag with me.

Pocketable
Secrid wallet - I got this a while back and it's fantastic, well designed, small, and it encourages me not to hoard receipts and other crap
Keys with Utilikey - great little extra tool for emergencies
Pocket knife - usually my Opinel 5 as that's nice and small (and legal in the UK)
Mini Sharpie

Day 3 of #JapaneseWatchWeek! Wearing one of my favourite beaters today, the small and very low profile Casio W93 which has the advantage of standard lugs so you can chuck it on a Nato #womw #watchnerd #watchesofinstagram #watchporn #japanesewatch #casio # by whatmeworry101, on Flickr

Baggable
Large notebook (Moleskine or Leuchtturm1917) - for any longer pieces of writing I'm working on, notes I will want to keep, etc
Small police style notebook - for leaving notes for people
Silivine Memo Book - for any temporary notes
Sharpie
Cheap pen - I use a Papermate biro I got a box of 10 of from Amazon
Fountain pens - Faber Castell with blue ink, Lamy Safari with red ink
Spare watch - a Casio F91W, cheap, functional, with a bunch of features most of my other watches don't have
Simple Swiss Army Knife
Torch
Case for the fountain pens
