Looking for info on this Rado Starfire

    Greetings!

First, this is my first post here and I just want to congratulate all of you contributors and moderators on this awesome resource. This is one of the fantastic things about the internet---that a such a knowledgeable community can come together around cool watches like these.

I've searched the forum for other examples of this model, but had no luck. The term "Starfire" only came up once in one of the lists in a sticky.

This watch is on eBay and I'm thinking of buying it as I think it's a pretty cool watch. I have included some pictures from the sale.

I am just getting started with my education on this brand, but I get a good vibe from this watch; it seems like a correct watch. The dial anchor, for example, does move! And the dial looks correct to me in that it looks well executed---nice straight print, hour indices well applied and straight, etc.

But I have a few concerns. The back has an different pattern from any presented in the recent thread about casebacks as it looks like a linen pattern under the seahorses. And there is a metal window where a day wheel would be displayed, which seems odd to me. And no movement picture was provided--I could ask, but having to ask is a bit of a yellow flag when it comes to an eBay seller, IMO.

Anyway, any thoughts anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Finally, I didn't see anything against posts like these in the rules, but if I have broken the rules, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,
    Chris Victoria

    Hello and welcome Chris.

I am not sure that is a redial. The case and bracelet seem almost new, but not in the modern refinished way. The case looks about like the protective sticker on the case back; unused rather than new. I have seen enough of the "window blind" over the day on Starfires over the years to wonder if it could possibly be authentic. We have discussed this very thing in the past, but I don't think a firm consensus was arrived at.It wouldn't be the first time Radoi did something a bit goofy with leftover cases. The caseback si correct. The problem with the ref numbers for the Aasian markets is that they can be difficult to check against known parameters. It would be nice to see the movement to figure out if it's at least a proper date only Rado.

    Hi and welcome here.
The Starfire is quite a strange model as the inner bezel is separate from the dial, which is why it's possible for it to cover the date on the one you're looking at.
I'm not sure if another model uses the same construction, albeit without a date window, that could have been swapped over.
Ismy has already posted a picture of the one I used to own, I'll have a dig to see if I have any more.
