Could I change the settings so that I automatically get subscribed to anything I participate in, and that I don't get notifications for things on my subscribed list? *starts prodding about*

Yes. On the settings page...there should be an option to subscribe thru control panel only.
Then in tapatalk itself u can unselect notifications.

Now to automatically subscribe to every thread I post on....

I cant show u on my android fon now...it goes direct to the mobile site...
Go to settingd and have a mess around.
Should be general settings somewhere in the middle to 'subscribe thru control panel' only..or something like that.

When all is done..when u go to tapatalk menu..u can see this
