I woke up in the grip of a madness most strange

Some inexplicable force has commandeered my cerebrum and I now have a rabid desire to own a regulateur. Don’t think less of me — my volition has been dragooned by malign intentions beyond my control.

Aside from the hideousness of my predicament is the bald fact that regulateurs as a species are spendy. So the question obtains: who makes a nice regulateur that won’t require me to sell a kidney?

Clean, spare design, case 44 - 38mm, new or used, auto or hand crank. Any ideas?

Hamilton makes several Jazzmaster models. There's also Xeric, although I don't know anything about the brand:

Christopher Ward made one, the C8, although it might be too expensive, and I don't know if it's still available.

The Xeric designs are very cool. I hadn't seen those. Chronoswiss has made a wide range of regulateur designs, some of which are exquisite, some sporty, some a bit odd. It seems to be their thing these days. I am a bit of a Chronoswiss fanboy so I could recommend those, but I also stupidly crave the Erard-Silberstein regulateur which costs more than it should. I agree for something more budget-wise, Hamilton would be my go-to.

Too many watches, not enough wrists.

That Chronoswiss would be almost perfect except for the onion crown. Those things drive me crackers. I’ll have to check out their other designs. Didn’t know that Hamilton made one, I’ll have to investigate that since I like most of the Hamiltons I’ve seen and I love the one I own.

This is cool, but forget about me being able to tell time on that. I’ve never done well telling the time on alternative time displays.

I like the look and have been wanting to get a regulator for a while but never pulled the trigger. I have been very close to getting that Steinhart several times but kept putting off. Now I can't find it anywhere. This Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator is on my "to buy" list; likely next summer. It comes in a variety of color schemes, and there is a dressier version with Roman numerals.

Regs can be extremely nice and I am a fan. I hope you find one.
