Whenever we've taken a cruise we got a balcony cabin if available, or at the very least one with windows facing the water.

Yeah sure, if one has unlimited funds.
But I don't, and so I have to prioritize.

I look for performance in things that I need to buy, and once a thing (not food) meets those criteria, then I will choose the one with the lowest price, and often that means NO BRAND NAME.
Take something as ordinary as staplers. Or alarm clocks. Etc.
There are many necessary but simple items that perform at that minimal high level, and there is almost no difference among the brands, except for the "prestige factor."

I had most of my own furniture and bookcases made to my specs only because I have specific requirements.
But I did not choose the "best" material.
Tables are all baked steel. Bookcases all pine. More than good enough for what I need them for.
And it cost me 20% of what it would have cost to buy - even if available.

And I most certainly will NOT buy the best watch-winder money can buy, bcz I can see that a $50 one does just fine. For me.

You're supposed to be enjoying yourself on a cruise not still on the bloomin' computer!
