I did contact him when first noticing his absence. He was fine, but had decided to withdraw from posting.

Did he give any reason? Just tired of the scene?

He chose to walk away, and he chose not to say why on the forum.

It's cos I banned him for a day, for a joke, about being insensitive towards my veganism and sending me bacon pics on WhatsApp. I whatsapp'd him and said 'you're banned for a day you swine!!' he replied lol etc, just banter, he decided not to come back.

That's a shame , I thought over sensitivity was something particular to " the other place "

Geoff, I don't know (nor do I need to) what exactly was going on between you two, but you shouldn't use your admin privileges to fight personal fights. I don't even have to know the whole context of that to say that your 'for a joke' was in fact ugly power tripping, and I see it as abuse. It's not the first time you disrupted the forum like this (I remember you changed his avatar at some point and also edited Alan's post in Five Things).
Acting like this, you're giving the forum a bad vibe, and if it was up to me, you would be taking a break from your admin 'duty'. As it is not up to me, I suggest that mods and admins sit together and discuss what to do with it. IWL has become my home, or go-to, watch community, but if admins can simply chase members away and get away with it, I'll have to consider walking away, too.

now lets not be going all out on these things
my take he use to like taking the p*ss himself and could come across quite contrary himself I have at times been at logger heads with him as he liked to dish it out but did not like to receive it so .. my take on forum interchange I tend not to joke as could be taken the wrong way .. but if one choose too then so be it .. but they have to at the same time accept it back with the same good grace ..
and geoff has messed around with everyone avatar at one time remember April first joke of changing one of mine to a rolex ( which it still is two years later ) so think any thought on this should be left to mod and admin to talk over .... not us

That discussion happened in January, shortly after I wrote to Seriously.
None of the moderators expect to see something similar happening in the future.
