I don’t feel the same, unfortunately. Wearing something like that with casual clothes would feel like wearing patent leather Oxfords with a pair of shorts. I know it’s the majority opinion that you can always dress something down, at least more easily than you can dress something up, but there’s a line somewhere and I think the Tresor is on the other side of it.

I'm not suggesting dress shoes with swim trunks or a Casio F91W with a tux.

If you're conscious of fashion in any way (you are), your everyday wear is likely not far outside of what will look good with an elegant watch that's dressed down.

I am not fashion aware and usually wear warm ups, and I still wear my nicer watches like that

Well, these days I’m dressing a bit more casually than normal, but I take your point. If I were still going into the office everyday, it would probably get a lot more wear (particularly if I were to put it on a brown leather strap), but I’m still not sure. It is a lovely thing though, that is for certain.

Yeah, the last 2 years has been weird.

It is lovely and I'd love to see one of them in the metal. The pictures look great to me and the movement specs are good, too.

I’m really starting to come to terms with the idea of letting my SM300 go. This could happen early in 2022, if I can get my act together and sell it and the other watches I’ve been meaning to sell.

Then what would you get? Up your budget, or 2?

Oh no, that’s where the budget is coming from. I’d be willing to go up a little from what I sell it for, but not too much, I think. Right now, I’m trying to keep my collection money neutral. Other than my Black Bay GMT, I haven’t spent new money on a watch in years. The benefits of being in consolidation mode rather than expansion mode. Better watches worn more often.

So, I did the thing. The test. I put my SM300 away and didn’t wear it for several months, until I really started to miss it. So I pulled the box out, picked it up, cooed over how good looking it is, wore it, and…the outcome was the same. It’s a gorgeous, excellently made watch, but for some reason, it just doesn’t work as well on my wrist. Maybe it’s the bracelet, maybe it’s slightly too thick, I don’t know, but it’s like having this amazing piece of furniture and no place in your house where it really seems to work. I think it has to go.

But I would like to replace it with something. Maybe IWC? I wish their Pilot chrono had a no date version, but maybe I can find an older 41mm model? Or maybe a 41mm Navitimer? Although that also has 22mm lugs, which isn’t ideal at 41mm. Maybe just take that cash and put it aside for the Monaco Cal. 11 we all know I’ll eventually buy. I don’t know. Open to suggestions.
