    Stupid news

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-64082924

Police said he donned a gas mask during the attack and escaped in the aftermath - but he left behind several personal items that aided in his capture, including a key to a U-Haul van he had rented in Philadelphia and driven to Brooklyn, and a bank card with his name on it.

A legally-purchased Glock 9mm left behind at the scene was also registered under the suspect's name.

The gunman was eventually arrested without incident after calling in a tip on himself.

These aren’t ‘news’ by a long shot and they didn’t happen anywhere near Florida but they reveal a degree of stupidity that is both appalling and amusing.

Years ago I had a housemate who was a pretty well renowned climber. She and some buds were doing a climb on Denali and laagered at about 14,000ft to acclimate for a couple of days before summiting. There was a glacial lake near their campsite. One of the guys in her group had a bit more testosterone than brain power and despite having been warned to dip a toe before entering the lake he dove in. The water was so cold his plums retracted so forcefully they herniated. No summit climb for him…

After my sister got a degree in forestry she spent a summer timber cruising in the Trinity Alps. She has a serious allergy to poison oak and was warning her crew to avoid touching it. One of her crewmates who was overtestosterated and underbrained pooh poohed her concern and to demonstrate his contempt for the lowly weed grabbed a handful of it, jammed it in his gob, and began chewing vigorously. His larynx swole up to the point that he very nearly asphyxiated. Had they not gotten him to the local ER in time he most likely would have won himself a Darwin award.

    Stupid is as stupid does.
Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

This current spy balloon debate between two unnamed nations feels so unexpected.

Andy Zaltzman's "Whoopie cushion warfare" podcast about the matter.
