Pink is everywhere you look these days. Whether at the movies with Barbie and Mean Girls or on the pitch and track with Inter-Miami and Alpine, pink is undoubtedly experiencing a moment. If you need further proof of this, look no further than Pantone, which has named a shade of pink its ‘Color of the Year’ for not only 2024, but did so for 2023 as well.
So it’s no small wonder that we’re seeing pink crop up in watches of all stripes recently. One brand that has made great use of pink over the last few years is Bravur, a Swedish micro-brand making excellent watches inspired by cycling. I finally got to see their collection in person at WindUp Watch Fair in San Francisco recently, and I can attest that they are one of those brands whose watches got stuck in the corners of your mind, persistently refusing to give up space.
This latest release from the brand is the Grand Tour La Corsa Rosa IV, a chronograph inspired by the Giro D’Italia (think an Italian version of the Tour de France). Now, I am not the person to dive into the intricacies of international competitive cycling, but I can tell you that, similar to the Tour de France’s yellow jersey, each day’s leader in the Giro D’Italia wears a pink jersey, and that it was this jersey which inspired the black and pink chronograph’s colorway.
As the Roman numeral in the name would indicate, this is the fourth release in the Grand Tour La Corsa Rosa line of watches. While the most obvious nod to the race are the “Tricolore” pink subdials, the watch is replete with references to cycling including the white and pink marker at the 12 o’clock position recalling the road signs of the famous race, and the presence of an inverted (and once again, pink) 13 on the minute track, a reference to cycling superstition.
All this is framed by a segmented gray-black dial, with an outer track reminiscent of asphalt and a radially brushed center section. Overall, it’s a very handsome dial that will look equally at home in the steel case whether one opts for a bare steel finish, or the PVD black option.
And speaking of the case, the Grand Tour La Corsa Rosa IV measures in at a very reasonable 38.2mm, with a 46.3mm lug-to-lug, and is water resistant to 10 ATM. I’m not sure of the exact thickness of the watch, but earlier versions of the Grand Tour were 14.4mm thick, including the domed sapphire crystal. I recognize that this may sound a little chunky with such a compact watch, but my experience with other watches in the lineup leads me to believe this watch will wear its thickness well.*
The Grand Tour is powered by the Sellita SW511b movement. The three-register chronograph movement — which was based on the better-known Valjoux 7750 — is automatic, hi-beat, and offers 62 hours of power reserve.
The plain steel version of La Corsa Rosa IV is available on a black perforated leather strap, a black FKM rubber strap, or a steel Milanese mesh bracelet, while the black PVD option is available with either the leather strap or the black FKM rubber strap. The FKM rubber straps from Bravur are excellent and would be my choice in ordering the watch. But regardless of strap option, the Bravur Grand Tour La Corsa Rosa IV is priced at $2,550 in stainless steel, and $2,590 in PVD-coated stainless steel. All versions are available now. Bravur
