    Outline:
    - Roman numerals > anything else
    - auto or hand-wound
    - size 37-40mm, great if wears like proper 38mm
    - miltary/tool DNA (descendants of deck/trench watches?), with only moderate 'dress' factor
    - fancy hands welcome (Breguet, spade etc)
    - reissues good, vintage bad
    - price: up to €1k would be lovely but it's not a hard cap
    - Longines, kiss my caseback with your 3ATM

and would probably scratch the itch, but I'm reluctant to shell out that amount of money. The reason why it's not automatically discarded is that it looks like pure fun and I'd probably be able to forget about the price tag.

A bit too much on the dress side, would prefer printed numerals, too.

What? I don't see anything. What is this thread about?
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Thanks Kath, yes, I'm only warming up.

Of the ones you posted I like the Seiko (bold numerals), although it's probably hitting the vintage mark and it wouldn't be a legibility monster with those silver hands.

The Stowa is 41mm and the Archimede is 42mm.

I find the flared lugs a bit odd. I know they’re faithful to the original, but I find that a bit odd as well.
