I'm not a NATO expert by any means. For the most part watches that come on them the first step for me is to remove them. The only exception to that so far is the White Hamilton military watch that I have. They are the only thing that looks right and works on it. That being said based on your description might I suggest a Crown and Buckle Supreme Nato? they have a tighter weave, are more flexibl,e and the material feels more like silk than nylon. I bough two for the Hamilton and I can really tell the difference between the Supreme Nato and anything else. They seem to fit the description you gave. I like Crown and Buckle products, they are very high quality on their better things, and they are just a few hours up the road from me so I generally get things next day or so. They also have a gunmetal grey.

Yes, I have a Supreme NATO, but isn't that essentially a seatbelt NATO? I do like it, but not nearly as well as I like the Dievas. Another thing I like about the Dievas...it's a G10 spec, so no stitching and the length and thickness are just right. I feel like the Supreme NATO is a touch too thick. Also that gray is too light shaded, but I may get one anyway. I currently have the black one and I rarely wear it.

Seems like you like and know your NATO's, what is your second choice?.
I have a few from different brands and the Haveston is my favorite.

I have no ideal what a seatbelt is? These are conventional NATO as I understand them. I thought a seat belt was a one piece kind of like a Perlon, but that was just a guess. Never bothered to really check. Mine has no stitching and holding it next to the premium NATO from them it is thinner. I do have one of the elastic straps that are very difficult to get the watch on and even harder to fasten on the wrist. It's pretty much guaranteed to shoot across the room while fastening it on the wrist. I hook it and stretch it over the hand kind of like a twist-o-flex bracelet. I should have returned that one. I'll never wear it. That was the other thing I thought might be called a seatbelt strap?
Cheers,
Michael

Same. Haveston doesn't seem to fray easily like the cheap seatbelt straps I tried.

Interestingly, the original maker of NATOs - Phoenix - hardly markets them at all.
CWC will sell you one -

But if you look at the description, they discourage you from buying them! And CWC must know more about them than anyone.

It was my search for the original Phoenix NATO that led me to the Dievas, I'm not sure if they are the same or similar, but somewhere in my reading the gray Dievas came up and I tried a few and liked them so well enough I ordered more. Whatever I read, I remember specifically the Dievas came close or nailed the gray of the originals. Either way I like the gray from Dievas. Though they are a bit softer, none of mine have frayed and the holes are reinforced, but the one hole in use is more worn than the rest, but that's no worse than leather straps for me.
I guess next I will try the Phoenix. Thanks for the reminder and link.

I'm pretty sure the seatbelt is the nylon weave similar to what your seatbelt is in your car - a very fine tight weave and very soft.
